The Fall of Efteling

A small magical adventure

    How did this game happen?

    We had to make a game for our 3rd and 4th block for our 1st year! Our Theme was Efteling. After a lot of research of ideas, me and my team made a new world for the magical land of Efteling so we can make a game that takes place in that world! We decided to upload the game on Itch and we also send it to the Dutch Game Awards 2023.


    This game also won the Spicy Meatball Award at the end of the year (best game of year 1)

    Development Time: 6 months

    Development

    At the beginning we where mostly doing research: Going to Efteling, making surveys for people so we know what kind of game they wanna see and some general research online! Then we came up with ideas for what the game is gonna be and then we just started working! The game wouldn't be possible without my team everyone did such a good stuff for the stuff that am not good at. The boss fight specifically went a lot of different concepts and actually the final version wasn't completely planned. I spend 2 nights coding the hole thing without sleeping.

    My work!

    Boss Fight: I had to make a boss fight for the game since we had a hole villain that was perfect for a rollercoaster boss fight. 


    For that fight I made a focus meter where you need to look at the boss for several seconds in order to attack her! I also made all the attacks the boss does as well as what you should do if the boss attacks, for example I made so the boss dashes in a random amount of time and you have to duck to not take damage! Another attack that the boss does that I made is a charge attack where you have to avoid by seing it's color and chage to which track you are with your magic wand! 

    Game Manager: Of course for the game I made a game Manager where it keeps everything that you are doing into consideration! Also it checks when you should see each tutorial sequence, it checks if you have done all the objectives and it applies all the nessary rules of the game, like what happens if you die!

    Seal System: It is the attack system for the game! when you try attacking the enemy a random sigil appears and you have to match the shape by moving your mouse! If you move far from the enemy it gets cancelled.

    Dialogue manager: It is a very simple tool I made so you can just copy paste some text and it makes it as a dialogue bubble and it is s
